Here are some basic preventive maintenance tips from our LAUGFS Car Care experts to keep your vehicle healthy.
Engine Oil
Choose the correct engine oil type for your vehicle. Make sure the viscosity grade (eg. 15w-40) and API grade (eg. API-SN) are in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendation. (Please refer operator manual if you have one or your Service Adviser).
Change your engine oil at the recommended drain limit or every six months whichever comes first. This may change with operating conditions and the quality of lubricant. Your Service Adviser will help you obtain more details
Drive Belts
Check the condition of belts regularly. Make sure the power transmission works correctly.
Caution: Do not reach with your hand to check when the engine is running.
Lights
Make sure all your lights including headlights, brake lights, turn/signal lights, emergency flashers and reverse lights are in order.
Brake Fluid
Check the fluid level regularly. Change the brake oil at least once a year and refill with new brake oil. Choose brake oil type as per the manufacturer’s recommendation. (eg. DOT3/ DOT4)
Brake oil tends to absorb moisture and bring the boiling point of brake oil to a lower value. This can develop vapour lock in the break system which is highly dangerous. Therefore, make sure that the lid of the brake oil container is properly closed. Also during inspection, the container should not be kept open for extended periods.
Air Filter
Check and clean air filters regularly and replace if necessary.
Hoses
Inspect at least once a month. If a hose feels too hard, too soft or looks bad, it should be replaced.
