The GnTracker is an IoT (Internet of Things) device that was developed as a solution to a critical challenge faced by one of LAUGFS’ businesses.
LAUGFS International is the authorized agent for Yamaha & Airman generators and was in need of a proactive mechanism to offer Generator maintenance for its customers. The service calls for generators was almost always triggered by the customer, after which the maintenance team at LAUGFS International will respond with the necessary services, as is the practice with most after-sales service providers in Sri Lanka.
During a business meeting with LAUGFS Chairman, the concept of a remote tracking solution was conceived to better enhance the service delivery. So, the Industrial Innovations team got to work to explore a solution by leveraging on our in-house expertise in R&D and Technology to find an effective way to transform the customer experience.
After weeks of development work, the team delivered the GnTracker – an effective and scalable solution and a pioneering product developed for the first time in Sri Lanka. The GnTracker comes with a number of features that makes it an ideal solution, not just for LAUGFS International, but for many other organizations and industries.
Online monitoring of generator performance
The new device allows LAUGFS International to monitor the health and readiness of their Generators, while they are located at the customers’ premises. Some of the common Gen set parameters it allows to monitor online include oil pressure, engine temperature, battery voltage, power output, diesel levels, engine run time and engine RPM.
The user interfaces and message alerts are designed for simplicity and ease of use and therefore are very user-friendly.
Remote operation and control
The maintenance team can now remotely monitor the status of the generators from anywhere in the world and remotely acknowledge alarms and thereby reduce expensive on-site service visits.
Service call alerts for maintenance team
SMS alerts are sent to the maintenance team when generator services are due and fuel levels have reached a predefined level. Therefore, the service call alerts are now triggered by the LAUGFS International team, and not the customer.
Generator location management
Using GPS functionality, the new solution tracks the current location of the generator in real-time and provides navigation information to the maintenance team.
Mobile App
A mobile app is also available allowing the maintenance team to use its features while they are on the move. This enables them to update device statuses after a service job is completed and to retrieve navigational information to assess the generator location.
Customers will also have access to a mobile app that will push device notifications and on-demand information.
The future of GnTracker?
The GnTracker unit can be attached not only to a Generator, but to any equipment, which requires triggered alerts and other important information related to the device’s operation. That means this new product solution can be applied in many different industries, irrespective of the product or brand, making its scalability beyond imaginable.
For the first time in Sri Lanka, this exciting new concept now provides a convenient and effective solution to a challenge encountered in many industries. With evolving technology and the continued R&D work done by our Industrial Innovations Team, the opportunities for the future seem boundless.
