LAUGFS Power PLC is leading the charge in revolutionizing renewable energy solutions, aiming to reshape the global and local energy landscapes. With a strategic focus on wind power, the company has secured preliminary approval from the State Ministry of Solar, Wind, and Hydro Power Generation Project Development for a 50 MW project in Sri Lanka’s Mannar District, marking a significant leap in enhancing the country’s renewable energy capacity. In June 2023, LAUGFS Power signed a pivotal Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for a 10MW ground-mounted Solar Power Plant, scheduled to commence operations by March 2025. This landmark project underscores LAUGFS Power’s proactive approach to sustainability, aligning with its commitment to reducing carbon footprints and promoting clean energy solutions.
Under the leadership of Mr. Mithila Wegapitiya, appointed as Chief Executive Officer effective 1st May 2024, LAUGFS Power PLC is advancing towards sustainable energy solutions with renewed vigour. Mr. Wegapitiya, also serving as the Executive Director of LAUGFS Holdings since 1st January 2023 and co-founder of POTENZA, brings extensive leadership and strategic expertise to the role. His finance and management education from the University of Aston, UK, and the Post-Graduate Institute of Management (PIM) underscores his strong foundation.
Recognized among Sri Lanka’s emerging leaders under the New Establishment 100 (NE100) by Echelon Magazine, Mr. Wegapitiya’s impact extends across multiple sectors, including his role as Global Chief People and Marketing Officer for POTENZA ANZ, POTENZA APAC, and POTENZA Pvt. Ltd. In this capacity, he oversees HR, Marketing, and Finance while driving regional expansions.
As LAUGFS Power expands its footprint beyond Sri Lanka, with upcoming projects in Bangladesh and the African region, the company remains steadfast in its dedication to sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
